Easter Bunny

Hello everyone!!!

Let me start by thanking you all for the crazy amount of positive feedback on our very first VLOG! We were so nervous about posting it, since it's so different from writing a blog post. We were also surprised by how much fun it was for us to make this video! We only briefly spoke before about some of the subjects we wanted to talk about. Matt wrote down some of the questions you guys had asked and so did I, but we didn't discuss any of it beforehand. All in all it was a very positive experience for us and we actually can't wait to do it again!!!

Like we said before, keep the questions coming and we'll make sure to feature them in our next videos!!!

Now back onto the subject of everyones favourite pastime: CROCHET.

I was walking Poppy with my lovely neighbour Tanja, which is something we do together every Tuesday till Friday. Especially when Matt is off to work, it's really nice having someone to walk the dog with, because especially the long walk (about an hour) can feel quite long when the weather is not so nice. Tanja showed lots of interest in our crochet endeavours, so I taught her the basics of crochet a while back. We didn't have much time yet, but she already managed to make some christmas presents for her daughter and nieces. She crocheted them some handbags with flower embellishments! I was very proud of my 'student'!!

In Bed With Boys & Bunting: Episode 1

Hello Lovelies!
After having a play around with the video camera in the bedroom yesterday (nothing kinky, we swear!), we are very excited to be sharing with you all our first vlog (video blog post)!

This is something that we've had in mind for a little while now...
We wanted to create a video series that would give you the chance to get to know us better.
It's the perfect opportunity for us to share our projects with you, have a little fun and most importantly, it's a chance for you to get to know us on a slightly more personal level.

So why not grab yourself a nice hot mug of tea (or a glass of wine, if you're anything like Dennis), a packet of chocolate biscuits and come join us in bed for our first episode of "In Bed With Boys & Bunting"!!

Some Links and Info from Episode 1

Here's a close up of the rather charming doodle that is printed on our Wolle Rödel Tote bag. We love not only the fact that he's a "man crafter", but also the way that he's wearing his scarf as he knits it!

The Oslo yarn that we also purchased from Wolle Rödel. We have some lovely bold shades and can't wait to get working on a project!

Poppy sporting her rather dashing bow tie! We actually bought this long before we even had Poppy. We were so excited to be getting a dog that we just had to buy a little gift whilst we awaited her arrival. Poppy is now 9 months old and has only just grown into the bow tie. She looks like she's ready to party!!!

The patterns for these cute Lalylala dolls can be found here.
These are such fun makes and so well designed. Between the two of us we've made five of these dolls so far and I'm sure many more are still to come. We simply LOVE them!!!

The two books that we spoke about in our vlog episode:

In our vlog we also mentioned the guy that taught Dennis to crochet: Mikey from The Crochet Crowd. Mikey has a big community out there and tons of crochet videos and tutorials!

Well I hoped you enjoyed joining us in bed and having a cosy little chit chat!!
If you guys have any questions or topics that you would like us to cover in future vlog episodes then please leave us a comment and we will be very happy to oblige!
Also if you like what you're seeing in our Youtube videos, don't forget to subscribe. This way you'll be notified when we next upload a vlog episode or tutorial.

Unitl next time...

Show & Tell Sunday

Hello Lovelies!
How are your weekends going?

We're just popping by to do another Show & Tell Sunday, to share some of the gorgeous work that you guys have been creating.
It's so nice to spend a moment having a look at other peoples makes. It's very inspiring indeed!

We're definitely in need of the inspiration at the moment, as both of us are bursting with enthusiasm to get working on a new project. However, neither one of us it totally sure what we want to make and what that new project will be.
Having a browse on Pinterest, as well as checking out the projects you've created using our patterns is definitely getting out creative juices flowing. Your work is fantastic! Different choices in colour, as well as little individual tweaks to the original patterns, is giving us some fresh ideas! Just take a look at the projects below to see what we mean....

Gail, South California, USA

Gail has done such a great job with our Spiral Cushion Pattern.
She's picked some gorgeous colours that really contrast with one another, as well as complimenting each other perfectly!
The yarn is by Hobby Lobby in the shades Samoan Sand and Gray beard. We just love them!

Gail's pillow measures about 13" and is stuffed with polyester fibre fill.

Finally to finish of the hypnotic spirals, Gail has bordered her cushion with a rather cute and neat looking Bobble Stitch Border. We just love the effect and finish that this stitch brings to her project! Great work Gail!!

If you have two minutes also check out Gail's fantastic Etsy store she has some gorgeous makes for sell!

Thommy, Australia

We just LOVE what Thommy has done with our Eagle Twist pattern! He used the short row sections to create an "ombre" effect and we're almost upset we didn't think of it first!

The colours he chose are just beautiful and he cleverly used a grey colour to really make the blue gradient stand out. Thommy also wrote down lots of notes and information about his process of making the scarf on his Ravelry project page which is always very helpful!

Why don't you pop by his Ravelry page and see what other beautiful projects Thommy has made!

Bethan, UK

What a great idea Bethan has come up with! Bethan has made this cute card and has used our simple star pattern as the design feature to really get the cards message across!

We think that this is a super idea!
This idea would work great for cards to send to "your little stars" (as Bethan has done), but also as a great Christmas card idea?!

Bethan has lots of other amazingly well thought out projects over on her Ravelry page, so why not pay her a visit for a dose of inspiration!!

A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

RoseHello everyone!

I hope you're all doing well? Matt's been very busy with work this week so I wanted to do something nice for him on Valentine's Day.
We never do anything special that day, mainly because it always worked out that I was on the cruise ship on Valentine's. I'd order him flowers to be delivered to his work but that would be it.

I thought I'd surprise him with our favourite breakfast (toast with cheese, fried eggs and bacon, yummy!) and his favourite ice cream from the organic shop down the road: coffee ice cream. I also got him some nice roses from the flower shop in our tiny little village. The roses were hidden in the cellar, but the ice-cream had to go in the freezer of course, so I knew he'd probably find out on Saturday evening already.

Matt came home, and had done some shopping himself. He bought some bacon, eggs and cheese for our breakfast in the morning. He went to the organic shop down the road, and bought some coffee ice cream and went to another supermarket to buy me some Ben & Jerry's. Seriously... I'm not even kidding! I guess it really shows that we've been together for so many years (It's coming up to 8 in August). Finding out that we had both bought the same things made our Saturday evening before Valentine's Day really special already.

The morning of Valentine's Day we decorated the table with some tulips I had bought him a couple days earlier, the roses I had given him and a nice candle. We had our favourite mugs out with coffee, some orange juice and our bacon eggs and cheese toast! A perfect PERFECT breakfast for us!

I've also been getting some hooky action over the last week! My dear friend Heidi had fallen in love with an amigurumi doll Matt had crocheted a while back and asked if I could make her one as well. I was looking for a reason to make one since I was intrigued to try out one of the patterns by "Lalylala". Here's a picture of the doll Matt made:

The name of this doll is Lupo. Lupo looks like a sheep, but is secretly a wolf dressed in sheep's clothing! Regardless, I think Lupo is absolutely adorable and I started hooking away! I didn't use the same yarn as Matt did, since his version turned out almost life sized and I wanted this one to be a little smaller. The yarn I went with was Oslo by Wolle Rödel. It's a worsted pure wool yarn. It's lovely to work with and perfect for this project! I used a 3mm hook to get nice and tight stitches which prevents the stuffing from showing through!

The pattern is written very well! She tells you exactly in which row to place the safety eyes and how many stitches apart they should be. She also posts many pictures and drawings to help you understand how to make your Lupo exactly like hers. It was a great pleasure to make this!

A couple days later and my Lupo was finished! I can't wait to ship it off to my friend! I'll ask her to send me a picture of Lupo in his new home! I feel like I'm gonna have a little play with the positioning of the ears again, because now that I'm writing this an seeing the pictures again I feel like they could be turned forward a little bit.

I'm intrigued to make some more patterns by Lalylala since this one was such fun to make! I know Matt has bought a couple more, so don't be surprised if you see more dolls popping up on our feed. It also inspires me to come up with my own Amigurumi pattern. But what to make??? I'll give it a whirl in my head and see if something comes out!

To finish up, I wanted to share with you guys how much we love being in touch with you guys! On Instagram and Facebook we get a lot of comments and we try to reply as fast as we can. Don't forget to share your projects with us as well since we love to see what you guys are up to!

Have a lovely week everyone!!!

Lion Head: Crocheted Faux Taxidermy

Hello Lovelies!
I hope you are all doing marvellously?

If you've been following us on Facebook and Instagram, you'll know that I recently ordered a book online.
A book that I was so insanely excited about, that I was literally counting down the days until it was delivered!
I stumbled upon the book whilst browsing over some of the amazing crochet talents that we follow on Instagram.
Amongst the feed of pictures, I came across an image of the most beautiful and intricate crocheted zebra head. It was perfect in every sense!
Being hugely inspired by this amazing creation, I got to work trying to track down the pattern.

After a little bit of research, some prodding, probing and question asking, I discovered that the zebra head was from the book Animal Heads, trophy heads to crochet, by Vanessa Mooncie.
I ordered the book from Amazon right away!

Now I understand that if you think about the reason for a trophy head and the history surrounding trophy heads, the idea is somewhat gory.
These trophy heads are not that though. They are handmade works of art, a fun idea and in no way inhumane towards the precious animals that they represent. It's just crafty fun and it makes a change to crochet something different.

Anyway, back to the book....

After what seemed like an eternity (but was actually just two weeks), the book arrived!
What a lovely book it is! It's gorgeous in design, styled beautifully and contains stunning photographs of all the projects. As you can tell....I'm a big fan.

After spending an evening browsing the pages and admiring all of Vanessa's fabulous patterns and projects, I knew which project was to be my first.... The king of the jungle....The Mighty Lion!!

I followed the recommendations in the book and ordered the exact yarn that Vanessa had used for her lion. In this case it was Alaska, a chunky acrylic yarn, from the brand Katia.
I ordered this yarn online, as it wasn't available in our local yarn shops. Once again I had to be a little patient, waiting for the yarn to arrive. At least I had some other projects to work on in the mean time :-)

Of course as soon as the yarn arrived I got to work, hooking up a storm!
I followed the pattern carefully, as it always takes me a little second to get into the style of how new patterns are written. I made sure to double check my rows with the instructions, checking for any slip ups I may have made. Of course there were times when I wasn't totally sure what I was doing (as with most patterns), but the great thing about this book is that the written instructions are accompanied by hand drawn diagrams. If at any point the written instructions were not clear enough for me to understand, a quick reference to the diagram would soon sort out any confusion that I had.

The pattern started by crocheting the main body of the head. It incorporated crocheting a cardboard base into the head, which would later act as the "mounting board" and enable the head to hang flat against a wall.

The body of the head worked up nice and fast, mainly due to the nice chunky yarn that I was using.
I loved watching this creation grow!
It was so exciting for me to see that it was already slowly becoming a lion. I liked that I could already tell that the head was going to be fairly large, it was going to be big and bold, a mighty crochet statement!

Vanessa Mooncie has been really clever with the designing and shaping of the head and has used methods of creating flawless shapes in ways that I have never considered before. It was a definite eye opener for me in terms of our future Boys & Bunting pattern designing.

Once the basic head shape was finished, I continued with the instructions and constructed the facial features of the lion. A chin, some cheeks, ears, eyes and a nose completed the set of facial features. Once all of the features had been made I got started pinning the them in place. I checked that each of the facial components was placed correctly before securely sewing them in place.

I followed the pattern for each of the facial features exactly as written in the book. The only alteration I made was with the eyes. For the eyes I worked them up according to the written pattern and then added some 15mm glass eyes on top of the crocheted pupil. I loved the effect of the glass eyes, they really gave the lion character.

I made sure to take pictures as I added the facial features, it's great seeing the lion come to life...

Once all of the facial features were in place, it was time to turn this lioness into a lion. He needed a mane!!!
The instructions of the book clearly indicated how to add the mane and how long each length of yarn should be. Attaching the mane was simple enough, but was the most time consuming aspect of the whole project.

The time it took to add the mane was well worth it though, as it transformed the lion!
Finally some fishing line whiskers were added and this ferocious feline was ready to ROAR!!!!

I am so insanely happy with how he turned out!!! He is a perfect crocheted piece of art and a great decoration to our home. I'm not totally sure where we are going to put him yet? We are still having a play around with some options.

He definitely has to go up on one of the walls though! I just wish we had a craft room, he'd be perfect there!

This was such a fun make and the book certainly lived up to all of the excitement and expectations that I had. I can't wait to get started on my next crocheted animal head. I wonder which one I'll make!?

Happy weekend Lovelies!!!

Pincushion Caddy

I love Instagram, I really do. I believe that it's quite obvious since I already posted an Instagram Pincushion pattern.
This blogpost is about Instagram and a Pincushion, but not about an Instagram Pincushion this time ;-)

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed when I suddenly saw this really cute idea for a "Pincushion Caddy".
Pretty much a cup to hold your crochet or knitting utensils with the outer shell being a pincushion at the same time!!! (I know right?!)
It was made by a user called Gultence79. Her work is absolutely beautiful! She also shares her patterns and even makes mini video tutorials on her channel.

Like I said, I was sold when I saw the little caddy. The pattern couldn't be easier. Endless rounds of single crochets, some stuffing, and done! What you don't see, is that the actual jar or glass that's holding the crochet hooks is covered in crochet as well, before working the same length again with increases and decreases, which is folded over to the bottom again and stuffed.

I didn't have any stitch markers lying around, so I decided to use a piece of scrap yarn as a stitch marker. After posting my progress picture on Instagram, some people mentioned liking the blue colour pop, so I decided to add the blue colour to the final caddy! Because grey would just be grey right? Also note the totally matching blue crochet hook ;-)

I decided to use Rico Baby Classic DK for this project. To be really honest, I was convinced it was a cotton mix, but it turned out to be an Acrylic/Polyamide mix. Oh well, it still did the job! If I were to make another one, I'd probably go with cotton. I really like the stitch definition you get when using cotton or a cotton blend.

The container is actually a stainless steel toothbrush holder from a shop called "Depot" which is the most amazing home decor shop we have in Germany.

After I finished the crocheting part of the caddy, I had to move on to stuffing. I found it a bit tricky to be really honest. Getting the stuffing evenly dispersed over the entire area and making sure it's rounded on each side turned out to be quite the challenge. It's still not a 100 percent perfect, but it's good enough for me! It does the trick, and looks cute whilst doing that.

I also took the liberty of adding one of our little Simple Stars as a decoration.

And one more time, in it's total awesomeness:

Now I'm actually off to make another one, but with quite a different design! When I was making this caddy, I made a couple of mistakes the first time (not following the pattern) and ended up with something looking quite different. I undid my mistake, but decided I would try and make the same mistake un purpose for my second version of this. I'll let you know once it's finished!

Have a lovely week everyone!
